Butyl rubber elastomer will display very good resistance to corrosive acids and alkalis and maintain moderate abrasion resistance.
This elastomer also displays excellent UV and ozone resistance with a low permeability to compressed gases and aqueous solutions, with excellent chemical and heat resistance with low permeability to air and good weathering properties. It has however poor resistance to petroleum based fluids. It has high resistance to permeation.
Butyl rubber is designed primarily for use as a flexible strip, pad, lining or gasket.
