Flanges, the most common trouble area, need to be sealed properly to prevent leakage and must also be cathodically insulated to prevent stray currents which cause undo corrosion and eventual breakdown of the metal.

A flange is typically insulated for cathodic protection reasons.  Insulating the flange requires that no metal to metal contact occurs between the two flanges, this includes between the bolts.  Insulating sleeves and washers are used on the bolts that prevents this contact.

Isolating products are used to guarantee the safe flow of fluids passing through pipeline transmission, distribution and process piping systems.

Flange and Bolt Insulation products are the most widely used form of controlling losses due to corrosion.  They can be used to control stray electric currents in piping at oil, gas, water, refinery, and chemical plants, to increase the effectiveness of cathodic protection systems and confine or eliminate electrolytic corrosion.

Industrial Gaskets can supply various sizes and types of insulating gaskets and complete gasket kits to suit any pressure or product requirements They are available in variety of materials. Each kit is supplied either with steel and insulating washers, sleeves and a insulating gasket or TopHat bolt insulators, steel washers and an insulating gasket. 

The most common insulating materials include Minlon©, G11 Glass Epoxy, G10 Glass Epoxy, Mylar, Phenolic,  PTFE (or Teflon©).  At Industrial Gaskets they are available for all flange sizes, types, pressure ratings.

Bolt Insulation - Minlon Top Hat

Top Hat or Bolt Insulators are a one piece moulded sleeve and washer that are used to electrically isolate bolts from flanges to stop galvanic corrosion. Material is a mineral filled nylon - Minlon

Top Hat Bolt Insulation offers a tough, convenient-to-use, one-piece sleeve and washer option. Industrial Gaskets Top Hats are manufactured from Mineral Reinforced Nylon (commonly known as Minlon®).  Industrial Gaskets Top Hat Bolt Insulators contain a UV resistant stabilizer and have good di-electric strength. Bolt Insulating  "Top Hats" are used to provide electrical isolation between the bolts and flanges on pipelines, or between dissimilar metals. Mineral Reinforced Nylon (commonly known as Minlon®) exhibits good to excellent resistance to most hydrocarbons, ozone, gasoline, ethanol, oil, grease, water etc.  We can manufacture and supply various sizes and types of "Top Hat" bolt insulation.  Sizes stocked include M3 through to M33 in Metric and 1/2" through to 1-3/4" in Imperial.  They can be used for single bolt isolation or combined with a gasket and steel washers to form a flange kit.  

Flange Insulation Kit - Type E

Type "E" Insulation Gaskets extend to the outside diameter of the flange.

Industrial Gaskets standard Type E Flange Insulation Kits feature precision located bolt holes, to automatically center the gasket and prevent foreign material from becoming lodged between the flange and "shorting out" the flange. Industrial Gaskets can supply various sizes and types of insulating gaskets, bolt insulation and complete gasket kits to suit any pressure, temperature or operational specifications. Flange Insulation Gaskets are available in Compressed Fibre (Tesnit BA-GL or Tesnit BA-U), G11 Epoxy, Reinforced Phenolic, Lamons Linebacker Fire Safe and other materials.  Each kit is also supplied with washers, sleeves  in a wide variety of materials including Phenolic, Minlon, Mylar G11 Epoxy and Nomex. They are available for all flange sizes, types, pressure ratings and temperature ratings. Flange Insulation Kits - Type F

Type F are made to fit within the bolt hole circle of the flange faces. The outside diameter of the gasket is slightly larger than the inside diameter of the bolt hole circle.

G-10 Glass Epoxy Washer

G-10 Glass Epoxy for isolation from dissimilar metals and subsequent galvanic corrosion. G-10 Epoxy glass has high mechanical strength, good electric strength properties and dielectric loss properties under both dry and humid conditions.

G-10 Glass Epoxy is a continuous woven glass fabric laminated with an epoxy resin.  G-10 Glass Epoxy also has low water absorption rates.  This grade is extremely high in mechanical strength, has low water absorption and dissipation factors and has superior electrical characteristics, which are exhibited over a wide range of temperatures and humidities. Especially suited for static applications in which flange or joints require isolation from dissimilar metals and subsequent galvanic corrosion. Grade G-10 Glass Epoxy is used for terminal boards, washers, sleeves, structural components, and parts where the strength to size ratio is critical. G-10 Glass Epoxy Washers are available in standard bolt sizes or cut to your size.  

G-11 Glass Epoxy Washer

G-11 Glass Epoxy is used for isolation from dissimilar metals and subsequent galvanic corrosion. G-11 Glass Epoxy has extremely high mechanical strength, good electric strength properties and dielectric loss properties at elevated temperatures.

G-11 Glass Epoxy washers are made from continuous woven glass fabric laminated with an epoxy resin. The G-11 Glass Epoxy grade is extremely high in mechanical strength, has low water absorption and dissipation factors and has superior electrical characteristics, which are exhibited over a wide range of temperatures and humidities. G-11 Glass Epoxy is especially suited for static applications in which flange or joints require isolation from dissimilar metals and subsequent galvanic corrosion. Grade G-11 Glass Epoxy is used for terminal boards, washers, sleeves, structural components, and parts where the strength to size ratio is critical. Mylar Insulating Sleeve

Mylar Sleeve / Tube is widely used in flange isolation kits or on it's own to insulate bolts from flanges in an environment where Galvanic Corrosion may occur. Mylar Sleeve has low water absorption and high dielectric strength.

Mylar is used to insulate or isolate bolts from dissimilar metal flanges to avoid galvanic corrossion.  Mylar has excellent dielectric strength and low water absorbtion.  Mylar Sleeves are designed to fit easily over the flange bolts, and may be used with standard size bolts and bolt holes even with some misalignment. Insulating sleeves have a standard wall thickness and are generally used with separate insulating washers such as G10/G11 Glass Epoxy or phenolic. Mylar is the most recognised and industry approved sleeve and bolt insulating material. Industrial Gaskets recommends Mylar Sleeve as it is stronger than Phenolic and less prone to cracking when being torqued or becoming broken during the installation process.  It is available in both Metric and Imperial sizes.  The standard length is 900mm or 3ft and can be supplied in full lengths or we cut to suit your bolt length.  

Phenolic Insulating Washers

Insulating Washers are generally made of high strength phenolic and provide tough, positive insulation. They are available for most standard bolt sizes and are made to fit over the insulating sleeves.

Available in phenolic or molded to sleeves in Minlon, Mylar and Polyethelene. Standard bolt sizes in imperial and metric sizes are readily available and stocked.  

Phenolic Sleeve

Phenolic Sleeve is widely used in flange isolation kits or on its own to insulate bolts from flanges in an environment where Galvanic Corrosion may occur. Phenolic Sleeve has low water absorption and high dielectric strength.

Phenolic Sleeve / Tube is suitable for general electrical applications to assist in isolating bolts from flanges when galvanic corrosion is likely to occur. Phenolic Sleeve is also not recommended for use in alkaline environments and is unaffected by most organis solvents.  Whilst Phenolic Sleeve (and washers) have been widely used over the years it does tend to be fragile and can become brittle and crack or break if under heavy bolt torque or not handled with care. This is where Mylar Sleeve / Tube is now used in place of Phenolic Sleeve / Tube.  Available  in all standard bolt sizes to suit both Imperial and Metric.

TESNIT BA-GL

Donit Tesnit BA-GL combines excellent thermal and chemical resistance with outstanding mechanical properties, especially torque retention.
