Spiral Wound Gaskets

Spiral Wound Gaskets

Spiral Wound Gaskets consist of a V-Shaped or Chevron metal strip spirally wound in combination with a soft filler material. The metal strip provides outstanding recovery, while the flexible filler guarantees excellent sealing.

Depending on the application  the spiral wound can be specified with or without Inner Rings and Outer rings in various materials including, Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, Hastalloy and SAF.  Fillers can include Graphite, PTFE and Compressed Fibre.

Industrial Gasket Spiral Wound Gaskets can be used to seal fluid pressures up to 250 bar and from cryogenic temperatures up to temperatures of 1000 degrees C.

All of Industrial Gaskets Spiral Wound Gaskets are packed with spacers to prevent damage to the sealing face or windings.

Industrial Gaskets holds South Australia's largest stock of Spiral Wound Gaskets in sizes from 15mm to 600mm to suit ANSI150 through to ANSI1500 flanges.

Spiral Wound - Style CG

Style CG windings and construction is similar to the Style R however it has a solid Outer (centering) ring securely fitted. This is the most popular style of Spiral Wound Gasket

The outer ring acts as both a centering device for easy location within the flange bolt circle and also a limit compression stop  to prevent the gasket from being overloaded and crushed. Materials commonly used are Mild or Carbon Steel, 316 Stainless Steel and 304 Stainless Steel. Other materials include Titanium, Monel, Hastalloy, 321 and 320 Stainless Steel Nickel. Stocks of Style CR are held from 15mm through to 750mm in standard flange sizes #150 (ANSI 150) to #900 (ANSI 900).

Spiral Wound - Style CGIR

Style CGIR windings and construction is similar to the Style CR however it has a solid 3.2mm thick Inner ring fitted into the gasket bore. Commonly used in arduous or critical service conditions.

The Inner Ring prevents turbulence and erosion damage to the flange faces at the bore and also acts as a shield to protect the gasket bore and inner windings. Materials commonly used are Mild or Carbon Steel, 316 Stainless Steel and 304 Stainless Steel. Other materials include Titanium, Monel, Hastalloy, 321 and 320 Stainless Steel Nickel. Stocks of Style CGIR Spiral Wound Gaskets are held from 15mm through to 750mm in standard flange sizes #150 (ANSI 150) to #1500 (ANSI 1500).

Spiral Wound - Style R

Style R is the basic sealing element which is constructed with a V-Shaped (or Chevron) metal strip and a soft inlay filler strip. Commonly used where space is a premium and only light bolt loads are a available.

Winding Materials commonly used are 316 Stainless Steel and 304 Stainless Steel. Other winding materials include Titanium, Monel, Hastalloy, 321 and 320 Stainless Steel Nickel. Filler Materials commonly used are Graphite and PTFE. Other winding materials include Compressed Fibre and Aluminium. Style R - Windings Only Spiral Wounds are made to order inhouse from your specifications.

SWG - Style RIR

The Style RIR construction is similar to Style R but with a solid inner metal ring fitted into the sealing element to eliminate turbulence, erosion and corrosion.

Style RIR is most commonly used where male/female flanges are present.  The inner ring brings the gasket flush with the pipe bore to prevent inward buckling. Applications include Pressure Vessels, Pumps, Boiler Manholes, Caps and Covers
